Under-eating and your body
For many young girls today the issue of body weight is something that is constantly playing on young peoples minds. Wanting to be thinner in order to look like this person or that person… wanting to be, act and look different to who they truly are. Hoping to fit into a category or group, thinking that if they could only lose more weight they would be accepted and feel more attractive. Some girls are almost starving themselves… constantly striving to look like a twig – and reaching a worrying level of weight loss and yet they are still not feeling happy within.
This is a sad and extreme case of low self confidence and self esteem issues. In my opinion, this can all stem from the countless unhealthy looking, super-skinny size Zero celebrities who the youths of today aspire to look like. But hey! Did you know that the Super-Skinny-Twig-Legged look is not always appealing??!! Studies have shown that guys actually prefer a girl who has a “female figure” as apposed to a “boy-like-un-shapely-figure”. But if you are a young girl reading this now, who doesn’t believe that last statement, and you are continuously watching what you eat, losing weight, seeing the scales say you’re under weight – and yet still when you look in the mirror – you see a fat person looking back at you… you have a problem. A problem if not addressed could become very serious condition.
You may now be in a habit pattern of under eating, of obsessing about points, calories, and always checking the back of the box or packet to see how much of this or that you may be consuming. You are the only person who can control the way you think, who can control your life and your eating habits… and if you consciously know that you are not eating enough and have an unhealthy eating habit, then this is something that you need to sort out pronto!
It is important to be a good and healthy weight for your body and height, so in saying that – if you are 5foot, your ideal weight is going to be a very different weight to a person that is 6foot. Every person is born a different shape and size, and your doctor will be able to tell you what the correct weight for your height should be. It would be unhealthy to go extremely under or over that weight.
In my clinic we would see a rising number of teenagers attending for eating issues – these issues can be caused by various problems in their lives; school, studying, relationship problems or problems at home. So if you feel you may have an eating issue, I would ask you to take a step back, look inside yourself and search for the real reason you are eating this way, the real reason you are abusing both your mind and body….stand up to your subconscious mind by seeking help and know that you are the only one who can change it.
Take care of yourself
