Mind Technique to help you Relax over the Christmas Holidays
Christmas is a time when people’s emotions are heightened, change color and can very easily spiral out of control. Stress levels go through the roof, Anxiety levels rocket, and some people can feel very blue with depression and sadness. Christmas symbolizes something different for everyone – but no matter what it means to you – it will most definitely have an effect on your emotions one way or another.

It’s so important to stay in control and not lose the run of yourself, especially over the Christmas period. Many things can put you in a black mood, make you see red or even feel green or blue… Spending money, finding time to get everything done and spending a lot of time with the family could all be factors. Or maybe its just seeing your crazy uncle Vinny and his 3 mad as a hatter children running riot around your house, flicking peas across the Christmas dinner table with their forks that would normally be the trigger to tip you over the edge… but not anymore!! Nope!! You are going to keep your emotions on an even keel and I’m going to show you how easy it is to do!!
- Ok, so close your eyes, and imagine yourself in place that you can relax. It could be on a beach somewhere, it could be by a lake or sitting on the lawn in your back garden, or it could even be in a sitting room, sitting on a comfortable sofa by a roaring fire. Everyone has a different association with relaxation – so you just choose, and imagine yourself in a place that you would feel the most calm and tranquil in.
- Imagine all the things that you see when you are in this place, all the things that you hear and all the things that you might be touching. Now notice those calm and relaxing feelings you get in your tummy when you really imagine yourself in this place.
- Slow your breathing down. Take a long slow deep breath in… right into your tummy. Imagine it as the color white – a cleansing color. Imagine breathing in the color white. Then hold it for the mental count of four and then slowing exhale all the way out – and imagine, pretend you are breathing out all the stress, tension, anxiety (or whichever negative emotion you are feeling). See this negative emotion as another color… whichever color you associate with that negative emotion.
- Place your hand on your tummy now and imagine breathing in White calmness and piece into your body and exhaling any negativity in the color of your choice. Breathing in and out in a slow and relaxed manner.
Do this exercise 3 times a day for the next week. It will build up an association between placing your hand on your tummy, breathing in white calmness and tranquility – and the feeling of relaxation from your favorite relaxing place. All of these will in turn create those calm and tranquil feelings through out your body to help you deal with any stressful situations in a cool, calm and controlled manner.
So having practiced this a number of times – you will soon be able to just place your hand on your tummy, take that deep breath in and your subconscious mind will automatically calm and control your emotions in any situation.
Have a relaxing Christmas and enjoy :-)
Love,
Katie Jane xx
