Fear Release Technique to get you started.
This is one of the techniques I use in the Clinic on a regular basis. It sort of rewires your subconscious mind and creates new neural pathways. It will help you to have a new response to flying – rather then the fear you would have felt in the past. I will quickly show you now how to create a Calm Physical Anchor, which will produce a calm and relaxed feeling every time you do it. The anchor I use with my clients is simply squeezing your thumb and forefinger together to make the letter ‘O’ while imagining yourself in a calm, safe and peaceful environment. When you have done this under Hypnosis – or while listening to my CD to imbed it into your mind… it will remind your body to respond in a calm and peaceful way, no matter what situation you are in.

“Find a quiet place and close your eyes. Start relaxing your body all the way from the top of your head right down to the tips of your toes. Take a long slow deep breath in, and then slowly exhale all the way out… just begin to slow down your breathing… Now count down from 8 – 0… breathing out all the tension in your body with each number. Say the word ‘Relax” to yourself as you count down and just let your body sink and soften with every breath you take. The more relaxed you feel… the easier this will work for you…
Now imagine yourself in a safe relaxation place in your mind. A peaceful place… it might be somewhere you have seen before that reminds you of how relaxed you felt when you were there… or it might be somewhere new from your own imagination. Imagine that a ray of sunlight in shining onto your body and you can feel the warmth of the sun on your body relaxing you even more. Notice what you see and hear and smell when you are here… what colors you see in your mind… what sounds you hear. And now when you feel really really relaxed here, at peace and it is really pleasant experience for you… just squeeze your thumb and forefinger together to make the letter ‘0’. Now ask your subconscious mind to strengthen and increase those peaceful and relaxed feeling you have within you, every time you squeeze your thumb and forefinger together. Making your feelings of calmness and tranquility stronger.”
This may not remove your fear… but what it will do is help you to feel a little calmer when flying. Repetition is the mother of skill… so practice this technique over and over again and it will help. Do this everyday before a flight and you will find you are able to breath easier and calmer while flying.
My “Relax While Flying” CD will imbed this technique, among others, into your mind and help you to feel calm and relaxed while flying. I would recommend you listen to my CD both in the lead up to your flight and while you are in the air.
